In the Summer of 2010 The Friends of Chances park organised a series of Activities to encourage the use of the city parks.
Following this a group was set up at Morton Manor, by the Friends of Chances Park Activities Office to begin with the Tai Chi group was led by Chris Blain. It ran for a few years and then Chris announced that she was taking a year’s Sabbatica. The group were dismayed and asked ‘What are we going to do with no Tai chi’ I replied that I was going to go and practise in the Park at Morton Manor and anyone who wanted to join me was welcome.
And so this group was born, if it rained we stayed home, although on one summer’s day we practised under the weeping birch tree!. We were still practising outdoors in November. The decision was then taken to see if we could hire a room in the Manor and all members would pay a subscription to cover the cost. In this way the present group was formed and continues to this day. We still meet outside when the weather allows!
I still lead the group’s practice, but we now have a Treasurer who collects the subs and pays the rent and organises Social events and a Secretary who speaks to prospective new members.
Prospective new members can leave their name and a contact number with the ladies in the office and they will pass it on to us.
